Job Description

Operating Engineer
We are currently seeking an Operating Engineer who will be responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment, machinery and related controls and components at our client's facility.

  • Control the daily operation of all mechanical equipment in the physical plant and buildings
  • Perform troubleshooting, maintenance and repairs to the Mechanical, Plumbing, Fire and Life Safety, and BMS Control systems for the facility to keep these systems up to applicable standards with zero downtime.
  • Expertise with HVAC equipment (unitary package units, RTUs, chillers, fans and pumps) including troubleshooting, diagnostics, repair and maintenance of industrial and commercial air conditioning units including but not limited to replacement of compressors, pumps, blowers, fans and motors
  • Maintains responsibility for engineering/electrical related reactive work orders, preventative maintenance, purchasing and inventory control, contracted maintenance, general maintenance and technical proficiency.
  • Monitors operation and maintains air conditioning equipment, boilers, heating, ventilating and hot water equipment, pumps, valves, piping and filters, other mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Performs and/or completes engineering/electrical related reactive work orders assigned by the chief engineer accurately, expediently and in a customer service oriented manner. 
  • Executes the preventative maintenance program for the facility as directed by the chief engineer.
  • Performs preventative maintenance tasks in a timely manner as scheduled and ensure 100% on time completion. 
  • Monitors the quality and pricing of maintenance work performed by outside contractors. 
  • Ability to evaluate building systems and to monitor and to improve performance to operate efficiently.
  • Complies with all policies and procedures established for the building.
  • Strong familiarity with Data Center operations and all the ancillary equipment that are required to support such an operation.
  • Ability to be on call 24/7, be flexible in terms of work schedule and be available to work weekends if necessary.
  • Actively participates in emergency response procedures, business continuity, technical, HSE and safety training programs.
  • Perform all work using the proper personal protective equipment and safety equipment as required by the job plan.


  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in electrical, HVAC trade, including rooftop units, package units and chillers
  • Experience working with computerized maintenance management systems and building automation systems
  • Universal CFC certification
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction
  • Good interpersonal and a positive team attitude
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Familiarity with computers and operations and office automation applications, including Microsoft Office
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to perform such tasks as lifting 50 lbs, climbing ladders and other related physicals tasks required to execute tasks required of the position.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk long distances to cover property portfolio. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
