Job Description

The Americas Chief Accounting Officer will be responsible for the accounting and financial reporting activities for the Americas region (USA, Canada and Latin America), regional governance and compliance, policy, and internal client relations. Reporting directly to the Americas CFO.


Accounting strategy and related project management and change management

SEC compliance and financial audit management (internal/external)

Oversight of all financial reporting and financial systems

Optimization of receivable/payable processes, cash management and return on capital

Merger and acquisition due diligence and advisory support

Americas finance team management

Coordination with global finance team

1. Management/Leadership

  • Strategic thought leader; presents clear analyses and delivers persuasive rationale to CFO and other business leaders
  • Focuses on finance governance and partnering with leadership to drive profitable growth
  • Active member of the Americas Finance Leadership team, responsible for leading Accouting for the Americas and providing expertise on key Finance projects
  • Manager of a team of 70+ across the Americas region
  • Strong communicator and proven people manager who can set a vision, incorporate best practices and follow up with meaningful goals and feedback to direct reports

2. Accounting and Auditing

  • Leads technical accounting: application and review/update of standards, policy research and decisions, including support of consolidations, joint ventures and other contractual arrangements, business combinations and dispositions, compensation arrangements, loan accounting, leases, tax entries and currency translation
  • Leads consolidation and review of revenue recognition practices and entries
  • Actively follows the FASB’s US GAAP accounting standards and proactively sets agenda to review implication of standards changes and sets plans to incorporate changes
  • Regularly conducts risk analyses and recommends new processes to comply with SOX certification.  Partners directly with Global Internal Audit team.
  • Partners with Global Finance on accounting strategy and communication to and management of external auditors
  • Participates in structuring complex transactions and leads other critical projects, such as financial reporting updates, cost allocations and lease accounting changes; demonstrates strong project management skills
  • Business partner for accounting impact of contract language and modeling
  • Oversees financial reporting and budgeting/forecasting for infrastructure businesses (HR, IT, Legal, Risk Management, Marketing, Finance etc.)
  • Directly manages Payroll function for the Americas, processing paychecks for over 26,000 employees including commissions, bonus, stock grants and dividends
  • Leads controller meetings to address accounting concerns, share best practices and initiatives across regions with ASIA and EMEA

3. Analysis

  • Performs periodic and ad-hoc value-added analysis of results against budgets/forecasts and prior year performance
  • Analyzes historical data and current trends to identify risks and opportunities to company operations and financial results
  • Performs decision-supporting ROI analysis of major initiatives, such as new business lines, pricing strategies and discretional project spend
  • Leads the accounting due diligence for new acquisitions, mergers and joint ventures


Functional Competencies:
• Solid understanding of accounting principles and ability to communciate key issues to finance and business leadership

• Expert in Microsoft Excel and Power Point; experience in PeopleSoft a plus

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field with 15+ years of experience
  • CPA required; MBA preferred
  • Demonstrates experience in performing in-depth accounting research and translating that research into analytical, logical, and coherent written communications
  • Experience working and communicating within multi-national corporations and/or SEC registrants a plus
